Windows NT 4.0 was serious business.
Windows NT 4.0 was serious business.
It was a professional operating system.
It had services. It had networking. It had things called Named Pipes.
And according to our server, everything was working just fine.
There was one small disagreement.
The Heidelberg plate burner responsible for helping produce newspaper printing plates did not share Windows' optimism.
We needed the equipment to communicate.
Windows said yes.
Heidelberg said no.
Windows said everything was configured correctly.
Heidelberg remained unimpressed.
For the next two or three days, we were treated to one of the great traditions of information technology:
Two systems insisting that the problem was definitely somewhere else.
If memory serves, we eventually needed a vendor technician from Calgary to help sort things out.
I learned something valuable from the experience.
A green checkmark does not mean anything if the machine you're trying to operate refuses to cooperate.
Windows NT was very confident.
Unfortunately, confidence doesn't produce printing plates. 💻📰😂
